Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you might be wondering about laser therapy.

General Questions

How does laser therapy work?

Low-level laser therapy uses a focused, painless beam of light to stimulate specific acupuncture points. This prompts your body to release endorphins — its natural 'feel-good' chemicals — which will remove nicotine cravings and prevent physical withdrawal, thus calming the nervous system and supporting natural recovery.

Is it painful?

No. The treatment is completely painless. Unlike high-powered lasers, low-level laser therapy is gentle and comfortable — most patients feel a deep sense of relaxation, similar to a massage.

How many treatments are needed?

The vast majority of our nicotine patients succeed after just one treatment. For pain therapy, a baseline of two sessions per week for two weeks (4 treatments) is recommended for chronic conditions, while acute pain or injury may benefit sooner.

Who is a candidate?

Anyone looking to quit nicotine or find drug-free relief from pain, migraines, or stress. If you are pregnant, we simply ask for permission from your doctor first. If you're unsure, call or text us — we're happy to talk it through.

How long does treatment take?

Nicotine cessation visits take an hour in total, with the laser portion being about 20 minutes. Pain and stress visits are typically shorter, lasting between 20–30 minutes. Most patients leave the office feeling very relaxed from either treatment.

Quitting Smoking & Nicotine

What is laser therapy?

Laser therapy is an acupuncture-based treatment that has been used clinically in Europe and Canada for decades, making it a well-established treatment used by healthcare professionals around the world.

How does it work?

The laser uses a focused beam of light to stimulate specific nerve endings, which release endorphins — the body's natural 'feel-good' chemicals. This removes the physical desire to smoke, preventing nicotine cravings and physical withdrawal symptoms. Counseling is provided alongside treatment to address the habitual component of smoking, plus stress management, nutrition tips, and relapse prevention.

Does it hurt?

No. The treatment is completely painless. Our laser uses light, not heat. Most patients report feeling a deep sense of relaxation afterwards, similar to a massage.

Where is the laser applied?

To external points on the ears and hands.

How long does it take?

The whole visit is about one hour; the laser portion is about 20 minutes.

Is it safe?

Yes! Laser therapy has been safely used all over the world for more than 50 years with no negative side effects. If a patient is pregnant, we do require permission from her doctor.

Do I need to do anything after?

Yes — drink plenty of water for a few days to flush and detoxify the body, and reduce caffeine for a period.

Pain Relief

What is therapeutic laser therapy and how does it work?

The application of laser light over injured tissue to improve soft-tissue healing, relieving acute and chronic pain. The light penetrates the skin and drives healing energy into the tissues, stimulating repair, significantly reducing inflammation, and enhancing the body's natural defenses. The effect is photochemical (like photosynthesis) and aids ATP production, giving cells more energy to heal naturally.

What does it feel like?

The treatment is completely painless and very relaxing. Some patients report feeling some tingling or a slight sensation of warmth from increased blood flow.

When should I feel results?

Often within hours after each treatment; some conditions need several sessions. A baseline of two treatments per week for the first two weeks is typical for chronic conditions.

Is it safe?

Yes — safe and painless, with no adverse effects after many years of clinical use in Europe and Canada. Goggles are worn as a precaution.

How long does it take?

Treatments typically take between 15–20 minutes depending on the area treated.

Are results long-lasting?

Unlike medication and injections which may provide temporary relief, laser therapy works to support the body's natural healing process, promoting tissue repair and potentially providing longer-lasting relief. Please note: results can vary based on the duration and severity of a condition.

How much does it cost?

$60 per session; the number of sessions depends on the condition. We recommend 2x/week for 2 weeks for chronic conditions, though many people feel relief after just one session.

What can it help with?

Laser therapy can help to reduce pain and inflammation, decrease swelling, support tissue repair, promote healing, and improve tissue function. Some conditions commonly treated include: arthritis, back pain, neck pain, bursitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, neuropathy, repetitive stress injuries, sports injuries, and more.

Stress Relief

How will laser therapy help my stress?

Laser therapy stimulates specific acupuncture points that help support the body's natural response to stress while promoting feelings of relaxation and well-being.

Where is the laser applied?

To specific energy points on the ears and hands.

What are the benefits?

Improved sleep, reduced mood swings, lower anxiety, better work performance, enhanced relationships, and a general sense of well-being.

Is counseling provided?

Yes. Lifestyle changes, nutrition, and exercise are discussed to encourage the best result.

How long does each session take?

An initial visit lasts about 40 minutes, which includes a comprehensive assessment as well as your first treatment, and is $85. Follow-up sessions are approximately 30 minutes and are $60.

How often should I come?

Weekly therapy is recommended initially to support stress management, with additional treatments available on an as-needed basis.
